Non-Magnetic Drill Pipe
Product Description: The non-magnetic drill pipe is an essential component of the directional drilling Measurement-While-Drilling (MWD) system. It serves to minimize external interference on the MWD instruments, transmit signals, deliver power media to the downhole motor, and transfer mechanical power from the surface rig. As a critical part of underground coal mine directional drilling assemblies, it features low magnetic permeability, high tensile strength, and excellent torsional resistance. It provides a non-magnetic environment for the downhole measurement system, ensuring that the magnetic field at the probe location is nearly identical to the ambient geomagnetic field. This allows accurate determination of the borehole's geomagnetic direction and ensures the precision of the measurement system.
Product Features:
1. Non-Magnetic: Exhibits non-magnetic properties with a magnetic permeability of ≤1.005.
2. High Safety: Does not generate sparks during impact or friction.
3. High Strength: Possesses high tensile strength and torsional resistance: Tensile Strength ≥1035 MPa, Yield Strength ≥965 MPa.
4. Excellent Ductility: Elongation at break is 2 to 5 times that of beryllium-copper, fully meeting the performance level of 135 steel grade.
5. Corrosion Resistant: Offers strong resistance to corrosion and excellent adaptability to downhole environments, suitable for operation in highly corrosive, acidic environments containing hydrogen sulfide (H₂S).
Applications: Non-magnetic drill pipes are primarily used in underground coal mine horizontal directional drilling systems. They serve as the carrier for the MWD probe. Similar to MWD drill pipes, they experience complex loading conditions, and their structural design and material properties significantly impact drilling safety and performance.

Non-magnetic drill pipes are manufactured from high-strength non-magnetic materials with a magnetic permeability <1.005 H/T, making them difficult to magnetize. They are used in directional drilling operations to ensure the accuracy of MWD system data. The pipes are available in three structural types: External Flat Non-Magnetic Drill Pipe, Spiral-Groove Non-Magnetic Drill Pipe, and Triangular-Spiral Non-Magnetic Drill Pipe.
· External Flat Type: Used for directional drilling in stable formations.
· Spiral-Groove Type: Used for directional drilling in soft, fractured, or broken formations.
· Triangular-Spiral Type: Primarily used for directional drilling in extremely soft coal seams or complex formations with varying hardness.
Manufacturing & Material: Our company's mining non-magnetic drill pipes are forged from a series of specialized non-magnetic steels developed by Shanxi Taigang Stainless Steel Co., Ltd. The forging process utilizes an Austrian GFM 1800-ton radial forging machine, enabling precise control of temperature and pressure. This achieves a uniform grain size of ASTM Grade 6-8, representing industry-leading microstructural uniformity.
Performance Advantages:
· Exceptional Mechanical Stability: Hardness fluctuation within the same cross-section ≤55 HBW. Charpy V-notch impact energy (KV2) single value ≥142 J (average 154.7 J). Elongation after fracture ≥36.5%. Overall performance significantly exceeds national standards.
· Enhanced Deformation Resistance: 50% improvement, enabling effective handling of complex downhole pressures.
· Zero Magnetic Interference: Ensures directional drilling accuracy and electromagnetic compatibility with sensitive downhole equipment.
· Superior Wear Resistance: 3 times improvement, extending single-run service life by 40%.
· Reduced Magnetic Coupling Loss: The non-magnetic characteristic minimizes energy loss, enhancing drilling efficiency.
Performance Comparison (P650 Grade): Our company's P650 non-magnetic drill pipes demonstrate superior mechanical properties compared to conventional industry standards:
